A lovely sunny morning _ Greenhouse update

So we were expecting some frost and ice for this morning and I had gone around covering things last evening .

This morning  - no frost and no ice .

The tree ferns are fine . I had laid some dried fern fronds across their crowns .

They are just fine ... however I think it is forecast to turn colder this coming week , so I will leave these as they are .

Lets go check on the greenhouse . I did throw a sheet of hessian over all the cacti last evening .

It's all steamed up from the puddles on the floor and the bright morning sun .

It'll be good to open up and get some fresh air in .

I pull  off the hessian sheet . I usually throw sheets of newspaper over everything but couldn't find any . I was delighted to have found the hessian . I think I had bought it to do some rug hooking with some time ago and not got round to it .

Everything is sleeping pretty much . It's just the South African plants that are awake through our winter . One or two of these are pushing up buds .

The Epiphyllums are doing o.k. They will need a good tidy up after they finish flowering . I can see a couple of buds in amongst them . They have brighter colour flowers for having endured a little cold , so I only cover them lightly with fleece if at all . They'll be fine .

The big dangerous ones are right at the back . I couldn't reach them last evening so they'll just  have to take their chances through the Winter . Nothing is watered through these colder months .

I always try to save my Pelargoniums and they are all squeezed in as best I can .

I probably didn't need to bring in my last remaining Monkey Puzzle that I grew from seeds/nuts . I need to plant that out as soon or repot into a much larger tub .

The Agaves are sulking , but they'll be fine come Spring .

                                              Pregnant onion babies !

Ledbouria socialis bulbs are just so ...sigh ....gorgeous ! Look at those sexy leaves !

The candle lantern just takes the edge off the over-night chills .

Disacorea elephantipes  is scrabbling up through the cobwebs ! It needs a some twiggy sticks for support but I can't reach it at the moment . It's fine and the spider is hopefully munching away any unwanted bugs .

Purple Tradescantia  is dormant at the moment . Keeping it dry .

That's all for now folks !

p.s. I will show you the Church pics another time !  🤍 x
