Potted on the Cucumber Seedlings

It was a very foggy drive to the garage .

 I got a hot chocolate .......

.....he got his new car .

The drive home was still foggy .

We past the beautiful Cornish Daffodil fields

                 πŸš™πŸš—πŸš• A bit of a boring day really . Happy husband though !   πŸš™πŸš—πŸš•

Anyway ......
🌱Cucumber Merlin seedlings all potted on 🌱

This morning the fog has lifted .
It's still overcast  , but I have actually hung my washing out on the line !
The sun is trying to come out .
I potted up the Cucumber "Merlin" seedlings .
I am waiting for the windowsill trays from Amazon .The windowsill in my bedroom is now seriously overcrowded and some of the seedlings will have to go on the study windowsill downstairs . I will be glad to get the seedlings out and into the greenhouse .
The strings are already in place for the Tomato plants .

I am putting the bags of compost into the greenhouse to gently warm up .

πŸͺ»Ordered some more Lavender plug plants πŸͺ».
Thinking about sowing some flower seeds .🌱🌻🌼πŸͺ»

Physio tomorrow ..I think this will be my last one .

I can see blue sky through the window !  🌀️  I'm off out to see if the washing is dry !

Cheerio fer now !  Love and Peace  πŸ’πŸ•Š️  Debbie x

Cucumber "Merlin" - germinated

Just a quick update - All 10 seeds of Cucumber "Merlin " have germinated .  I bought these from Premier Seeds Direct  £1.59 for 10 seeds .  Now that is good value !

Need to prick them out and pot them on , I'll be doing that later on today as we are off to the garage this morning ......boring ..... I'll be taking my embroidery and hope the hot chocolate machine is working !

Leeks Lavender and Rhubarb

The sun came out and I just couldn't resist pulling on my wellies and getting stuck in again .

I can see a nice little Agave off shoot in there !  πŸ’š

I gave this a raking over . The bean frame is still up from last year , after I hurt my back I had no choice but to leave the frames up . I planted this bed up with Lavender , to attract the bees to my beans  and with a view to making Lavender bags .  They were just little plug plants , they have some way to grow before I'll have enough flowers to gather .

I am planning to grow a lot more French beans , they were so good !  I am planning to fill this bed with Leeks .

I am growing my favourite Leek varieties Bleu de solaise and Jaune du Poitou .

They are up already !    We'll be eating those , this time next year !

Look at this lovely sunshine !

My beautiful Rhubarb is pushing up . I have two clumps , one which I cover and the other one I leave to regain it's strength from having harvested from it last year .

I had wanted to weed out the brambles along where the new fence is being put up , but I really had to get the Leeks harvested .
As it turned out ,I decided to leave some of the Leeks as I really didn't fancy spending two hours prepping them for the freezer . They are doing so well and we'll have some to harvest another day . I will have to watch it though , I don't want them to bolt !

I did get in there on my muddy knees and pulled out as many weeds as I could .
I emptied the potato tubs, which were a fail due to the heat wave and drought and hosepipe ban .
The Leeks have been great though ..I think the variety was good old Musselburgh ....a very good reliable variety .
Anyway .....

Then I turned some of them into Leek and Potato Soup with grated cheese on top with crusty bread and butter  .

And now I am SO tired ..... happy and tired !

I can write no more .....  Debbie  x

Foggy Day

Daffodils looking cheerful through the fog , on my way to church this morning .

As I mentioned yesterday , Cucumber "Carmen" ( the long ones ) have germinated . So away we go to the potting shed .

All five seeds germinated . Premier Seeds Direct are always reliable seeds .
I scoop out each one with a bundle of the warm compost they are already growing in .

They'll soon get their roots down  .

They still need a little more warmth .

So I have brought them back indoors and they are now on my bedroom windowsill . The windowsill is becoming a bit chockablock ! 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱
Just a little bit overwhelming !
I ordered a couple of windowsill plant trays and will be bringing the Sweet Peppers and maybe some of the Tomato plants down stairs and onto the study windowsill . Then when the second lot of Cucumber seeds germinate (Cucumber "Merlin " F1 the small ones ), there will be more space for them on the Garland propagator .

I then spent a couple of miserable hours swooshing water out of my greenhouse with a dustpan and brush .
Very hard work , it was like a green algae coated paddling pool  .
Very depressing .....I didn't take a before picture ..it was dreadful ... trust me !

I put some happy music on and danced a little ! Made it feel not so bad .πŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸ’πŸŒ»☀️⭐

There's nothing like a little bit of Bob Marley to cheer us up !

πŸŽΆπŸŽΆπŸ’ƒπŸ»πŸŽ΅  One Love πŸͺ·πŸŽ΅πŸŽΆ Three Little Birds 🎢🎡☀️πŸ’ƒπŸ»

The drifting fog stayed all day .

The grass is growing so fast , but the ground is too wet to use the lawn mower .

Good for pulling weeds though . I might do some weeding tomorrow .

I need to prune my roses and take up my leeks .

I just need to see how my back feels tomorrow after all the swooshing I did this afternoon .

Maybe it'll be a stitching day beside the fire ...hmmm ...I like that idea  !

πŸ₯’πŸ₯’Sowing Cucumber Seeds πŸ₯’πŸ₯’πŸ₯’

I found the other packet of Cucumber seeds !
10 seeds in this packet !
This variety is "Merlin F1" which has smaller fruits of about 5 or 6 inches and plenty of them .
 It's a good one !
"Beth Alpha" is another good one with snack size fruits . The smaller ones suit us better .

πŸŒ§️      Time is moving on , we are almost through February !   πŸŒ¦️

Aeoniums , Agave and Pelargoniums .

After my spine injury , I was unable to lift this window box down .This one is very heavy and it actually takes two of us to shove it up there .
I had no choice but to give in .
So there it has sat all through the winter . It is facing West , but slightly sheltered by the deep windowsill and the granite lintel above .
It's not looking too bad , especially considering the storms we've had recently .

I think the small Agave has perished , but the Aeoniums are looking lush and the Pelargonium is flowering !

Off to the dentist this morning for Ricardo this time . I will browse in the nearby art shop and maybe pop in the museum while I'm waiting for him .

Other news ......

πŸ€©πŸ’›    Lovely embroidery supplies have arrived !   πŸ’›πŸ€©

🐎 Happy Chinese Lunar New Year 2026 🐎

Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate it !

It is also Shrove Tuesday ..... not exactly a celebration as such ...but from my kitchen we are enjoying Pancakes today .

Simply lemon and a sprinkling of sugar for me πŸ‹πŸ‹πŸ‹

Ricardo wants it all on his !πŸ₯ž Maple syrup , golden syrup , nutella , blackcurrant jam , everything !πŸ₯žπŸ‹

Then up to the potting shed to sow coriander and cucumber seeds . 🌿🌿🌿

I'm growing Cucumber "Carmen " this year . These are a long variety ...said to be very good . Somewhere squirrelled away , I have a couple of seed packets of smaller sized cucumbers . I'll get these sown and look for them later on . I do prefer the smaller cucumbers .

I'm a little bit disappointed in only having five seeds in the packet . I like to be able to grow enough to share some plants with my neighbour . Also , to sow enough incase I lose a few . Premier Seeds Direct are fairly reliable , but it can sometimes happen !

Anyway , it feels good to have got these sown .They had better all germinate !

Watered.

Lid on .

And back indoors , onto the Garland heated propagator on my bedroom windowsill . I've had to move some of the Sweet Peppers and Tomato seedlings off to make room for them .

We are going to have another little cold snap of weather over the next couple of days . As soon as this passes I am going to take all of the Sweet Peppers and Tomato seedlings up to the potting shed , where they can toughen up before going into their big pot/bags in the greenhouse . It is still too cold in the greenhouse for them just yet . The potting shed is a bit warmer at the moment . I don't know why , but it is ! πŸ€”........πŸ˜ƒ!

And then I will have space to start some flower seeds on the propagator .  🌻🌹🌼🌷🌱

Now then .... Oh !....

I found out that my fern with the furry rhizomes is called a Phlebodium aureum  🌿

Also known as The Bear's Paw Fern

Also known as The Blue Star Fern ...which makes sense since the leaves have a bluish tinge to them !

Also known as The Golden Polybody Fern

Also known as The Golden Serpent Fern

Also known as The Gold Foot Fern

Also known as The Hare Foot Fern

...and those golden  furry rhizomes will grow longer and trail over the sides of the pot ! 🀩🌿Stop it ! Oh my goodness ! I'm in love !  πŸ’›πŸŒΏπŸŒΏπŸŒΏ

                                     I am in love ! πŸ’›πŸ˜
