Meanwhile down on the beach 🌿🪼⚓

 

The seashore  , the best place I know of to clear my head and calm the mind .

There is something comforting , just listening to the sound of the waves .

                   🌿     Lots of different sea weeds washed up .🌿

                                      🌿   Fascinating plants  🌿

           🌿   I really should learn their different names .🌿

                                                🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿

             🌿 No better a place than here to do a walking meditation . 🌿

                I came across this beautiful purple Jellyfish .

I would have put it back into the sea but didn't have anything to scoop it up with .

Not sure if it was still alive ?

 I hope the incoming tide would carry it back out again .

       Marazion , renowned for it's abundance of semi-precious stones .

 This was my chosen one . The chosen one that came home with me ! 

        Weather update - sunshine and showers - humid  🌤️🌦️🌤️

I got two loads of washing dry on the line - rained on - dried on the line again .

Greenhouse Patio Tidy - update 😄🌿

                                 I made a start !

  Pulled weeds out of the pots, refreshed compost , mulched and made a teepee for the climbing rose .

I'll do a bit more tomorrow . Now I am noticing that the greenhouse windows need washing ! 

                             It's all good and I'm happy !

Meanwhile in the greenhouse I had a big tidy up of the Cucumbers . 

Topping up with a bit more compost over any exposed roots and making sure they're not drying out at all .

I am SO grateful for the second water-barrel that was fixed up . It has made life so much easier for me not to have to drag up the hose and water through the window .

Any yellow or withering leaves were snipped off and of course a thorough hunting through the jungle for cucumbers .

Carmen  F1- beautiful long ones ! I will definitely grow these again next year .

Merlins F1 - these are a short variety , but bigger than Party Time F1 that I grew last year .

              I think I've found my two favourite varieties !

Meanwhile in the shed ---

 I thought I'd sow a selection of Cabbages and some more Beetroot .

  The first lot of Beetroot are doing really well and I'll be pulling them up soon .

I'll bring them on in the shed and plant them out in about eight or ten weeks time , we'll be going into Autumn then .  I will also have cleared some space in the vegetable garden by then . 

My next job will be planting out the second wave of Leeks Bleu de Solaise ....I think I'm going to put these into the tubs I grew our potatoes in . 

If it cools down I might do that this afternoon .

The potatoes were delicious by the way ! Oh ! My goodness they were so good ! Albert Bartlett and Soraya . Still got another four tubs to go . Very happy me !

                 Eats greenflies , so he's welcome in my garden .

          I haven't seen any greenflies, so he must be doing a great job !

Still too hot for me ☀️

 It was cool this morning , but we had to go out . 

      Take some rubbish to the tip ....

........ and take a few bits over to my friend . She wanted some of those soft velvety Mullein leaves ....I gave her one of my Lemon verbena plants and a small bunch of Lavender .

Next year I intend to grow more of the Mullein . Only had two come up this year.

    We got a coffee for Ricardo and a hot chocolate for me and sat over looking the Boating Lake in Helston .

      By the time we came home the temperature was climbing again . 

I had wanted to tidy the area around the greenhouse , but the heat was just too much for me .

Too hot for me to be sweeping and weeding out the paving slabs , moving heavy tubs and re-potting things . So it will have to wait until tomorrow morning when it will be nice and cool .

Ricardo loves the sun and he has been busy cutting the grass , strimming and  tidying the labyrinth .

Lavender - update 🌿🪻🪻

  

My young plants are coming along nicely now . Time to clip them all back a bit to encourage them to become more compact and bushy little shrubs .

I climbed in and picked lots of lovely Lavender and clipped the Chives back .

 It is so nice to have Lavender growing away again in my garden . It's been a couple of years since my old Lavender bush became woody and withered away .

  

                         I left some for the bees !

                 Then off up to the shed.....to play with them !

And had a very pleasant hour or so sorting them out into bundles and tying them up with string to dry for a week or two .

                 I put this tray underneath to catch any precious bits .

                              The shed smells heavenly now !

I repotted my Equisetum hyemale  and I wish I had taken more photos whilst doing it , as I found several interesting pond snails .🐚🌿🐚

   They were attached to the plastic basket ; so I left it in there , so they can crawl off .......slide ..............🤔... o.k...... slither ..... 🐚 🌿🐚🐚

Courgettes are coming along. Still a bit small . Got to keep and eye on them or they will get too big very quickly . I don't want them too small , I want to feed hungry tummies !

                                    Maybe tomorrow !  

I water this Keyhole/ Pumpkin bed early in the morning . I did a bit of hoeing here this morning too .

Little friend 🐝

Hello little Hoverfly

Another hot day ☀️

 So we had a little rain and it was a joy to go stand out in it yesterday evening .

It was another uncomfortable and thundery night .

Fog returned early in the morning but quickly dispersed and I got two loads of washing out and dry on the line . Feeling pleased with myself to have done  a bit of ironing too . 

I decided to get on and pot up one of my Furcraea plants . 

 I am slowly tidying up the area by the greenhouse . I am hoping the Hop will come back in there too . It was really neglected for months while I was out of action with my spine injury ....but I know that the roots are still in there and hopefully that will resurface at some stage . 

     The earth , a mixture of garden earth and some fresh compost was bone dry .

I gave it some fresh compost and two full watering cans of nice fresh rain water . 

 Then to check on those big cacti , that you can see through the window .

            All is well with those monsters at the top of my greenhouse .

Since the beginning of Spring I have been giving this Dioscorea elephantipes a little trickle of water to wake it up very gradually .

                      Today I noticed a nice green shoot !  🤩🌿

I need to pull that cactus out . It was a just a little piece that broke off another plant and fell into this pot  , and I just left it and now it has it's roots well and truly down and mingling with the Dioscorea elephantipes roots !  

  I can not remember what this cactus is called ...the name has long worn off the plant label . I need to get my big old cactus book out and look it up .  What is this thing ?!  It is on the tip of my tongue....but I just can't remember it ! 

 It looks like it doesn't have cactus spines as such , but believe me it does ! 😱 Nasty glochids ! Even if you only slightly , accidently , brush past it ! 😱🌵

      I still love it though !  🌵💚☺️

At some stage I will give them both some love . 

    I'll repot them both separately with nice new labels and horticultural grit .

Anyway ....

All of a sudden , further up the greenhouse bench , cucumbers are appearing fast !

            I gave everything a drink . Everybody happy !

     A nice glass of water chilling in the fridge for me too !

  Off for our walk in a little while . Just gonna have a little flop beside my fan  .
