๐Ÿ’ฎFirst Epie Bloom of 2024๐Ÿ’ฎ

We've had a nice lot of rain at last and I can take water from the water-butts again .  Come with me , I want to show you inside the greenhouse .

๐ŸŒง️Still waiting for the greenhouse builders to come back and fix the leaking roof๐ŸŒง️

As you can see the tomatoes and cucumber plants are now romping away !

I have been waiting weeks for this ! The Epiphyllum bud has finally opened !

I carefully pull back some of the cucumber vines to show you .

                        Oh ! My heart ! It's so beautiful !

I didn't think the Epies would flower at all this year after having been moved about while this new greenhouse was being built .  Hopefully we'll get a few more blooms .

๐ŸŒบThe Epiphyllum corner of the greenhouse ๐ŸŒบ

Still sunshine and showers , and gusty wind too .  Not as bad as they said it would be though .
Glad to have a break from watering the garden and everything is looking refreshed .

Another Epie flower !

So it turned out that my hospital appointment was for today , early . I had to dash about watering a couple of things and open up the greenhouse at a crazy time this morning .

As I walked up to the greenhouse I could see through the window that another Epiphyllum had bloomed  .

I couldn't wait to get inside and take a closer look .

So I had my scan , I now have a fat dressing of cotton wool taped onto my arm for a little while .
Instructions to drink lots of water to flush out the dye contrast and hopefully not too long to wait for the "all clear" phone call .
Putting my feet up again now .
Hope everyone is having a great Bank holiday and half term school holiday  !  ๐Ÿฆ‹๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ☀️ xxx

Meanwhile in the greenhouse

My First Epiphyllum Flower of 2019

                                               In my greenhouse ...
I was so thrilled and excited to see this bloom this evening that I forgot to look at the label .

I think it is Epiphyllum  "  King Midas " .....but I will double check this tomorrow .

Another Epiphyllum flower !

This morning I opened the greenhouse door to be greeted by yet another beautiful Epie bloom .

I think this one is Epiphyllum crenatum or it could be Epiphyllum crenatum var chichicastenago...this one came from a cutting from my mother's one , which in turn came from my Grandmother . I always wonder where on earth my Grandmother got it from..no garden centres back in her time .

So this is a very special one for me .

There was a slight fragrance ..but I think this was still coming from yesterday's Epiphyllum oxypetalum blooms.
Maybe when I go up to close the windows I'll have another check on the perfume..but I am thinking that this one has no fragrance .

Look at the size of it in my hands ! When the Epies have finished flowering , I will be having a ruthless Epie tidy up and re-label everything ....there should be lots of cuttings..if anyone wants one . They are very easy to root . They are best in a  greenhouse really , on the shady side . I fix up windbreak mesh for shade . They like to climb and scrabble about ..maybe too untidily for you ..but I adore them !
