Labyrinth - second cut of the year 🌿

πŸŒ¦️   Very tricky cutting damp grass , but it had to be done .🌦️

Also , I had to use the small lawn mower because we have mislaid the batteries for the larger one .
With the larger lawn mower I can do the labyrinth path in one go .
With the small lawn mower I have to go around twice !
I hate these stupid battery operated lawn mowers !  I just like to have one that plugs in and goes on proper electricity .

Hopefully Ricardo will find the batteries and next time I can use the big lawn mower and  the labyrinth will look much sharper .

I put all the grass clippings under the bean-frame  .
πŸͺ»The grey plants are Lavender πŸͺ»πŸͺ»πŸͺ»They will attract bees in to my beans 🐝🐝🐝
When they flower I can sit down in the middle and breathe in the Heavenly fragrance ! ☺️✨

Just a Quick Saturday Update

Good morning . I have had a bad migraine and need to take some time out from the computer for a few days .    Worries .....just worries ....sigh .

Anyway here's a few pics for you  . I cut the pathway in the labyrinth and Ricardo trimmed the walls ....  I was told off for pulling up the Aquilegia that was growing in the middle ...I got carried away weeding and pulled it up by mistake ....I was upset about it too !  I have bought some Anemone corms to plant in it's place , which should be lovely .

A few pics of in the shed ...the Epiphyllums are waking up ,  two varieties of lettuce , Evesham Sprouts , radishes ,  onions and leeks .

The Leeks are looking good ...always reliable . L . Blue de Solaise .

I am not sure if I will do onions from seed this way again in the future ....mainly because I am going to need the space soon for all the salad stuff. Lettuces ,coriander , flowers , cuttings and I'll be sowing my beans and butternuts soon ....I need the space !

Note to self -  I need to clean the shed window !

A few pics from the greenhouse . Showing how I have been covering the seedlings over at night and uncovering them first thing in the morning .

Hopefully it should start getting warmer now .

Cucumbers are not liking it . Hope I can pull two or three through .

Roma and Alicante Tomato babies looking good and I will have a few spare to give to my daughter and neighbour.

Cocktail Crush ....only four have made it . Very disappointed with that one and I already know that I won't be growing it again .

Sweet Peppers - dawdling - looking good though - they are waiting for a bit more sunshine .

I need a cherry type tomato to replace F1 Super Sweet 100 which didn't do quite as well as it usually does for me last year . I had thought Cocktail Crush would be a good replacement , but now I'm not sure . Maybe it will pick up when I repot them .Supposed to have good flavour . πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…

I continue to bring back the cacti that are in the front porch , up to the greenhouse . I have lost quite a few , which makes me sad . Some of the Epiphyllums were cuttings from my grandmother's plants . I have no idea where she got them from . Extremely rare plant back then . Some of these are hard to find even today !

                                            Euphorbia stellata .

Leuchtenberger principis ......a delightfully weird cactus !

Veltheimia bracteata taking it's time to open up her flowers .

I could make it bloom faster by bringing her into my kitchen , lovely but it always gets so tall !

So , this year , here she stays  !

And lastly ......

                                  The Crassula "Buddha's Temple"

My latest acquisition . To replace my lovely big one that went missing . Goodness me this was hard to find !

                                                        🌿πŸͺ·πŸŒΏ

                Anyway , that's all for now !

                                   Make it a great week ! πŸ¦‹

So much to do !!

So much to do and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed  right now . I have to get all the plants back into the new greenhouse , but can't do that until the benches are put in the right places and the trellis and the shade netting put up on the north facing window . I am trying to gather everything I need to get this done ..I need to buy brass hooks and a sharp pointy thing (bradawl ? ) A big hook and an S - hook to hang the lantern on . I need to buy more hooks for the windbreak netting over the door . Shelf things...brackets ?..to hold my lovely long piece of drift wood . One of the side windows is in a different place to where it was before , right where the driftwood used to be , but it's o.k. I just need to reconsider , review the situation .... change things around , work it out again .

I am so in love with my new greenhouse and feeling so grateful !

                                       πŸŒΏπŸ’šπŸŒΏ  New greenhouse πŸŒΏπŸ’šπŸŒΏ

The tomato seedlings need potting up into next size pots . The tomato plant bag/pots need to be filled with compost and put onto their trays in the greenhouse , for the compost to warm up .

Need to buy compost .

πŸŒΏπŸŒ΅πŸ’šπŸŒ΅πŸŒΏAnd then all my Epies and all the cacti will be brought back in . And they all need refreshing in various ways , fresh compost , re-labelling ,  pruning , tying in , talking to etc πŸŒ΅πŸŒΏπŸŒ΅πŸŒΏπŸ’š

Anyway .........

I still need to clear away the woodchip pile....and I am slowly but surely getting there with that .

I spent the morning weeding out Ivy and stinging nettles from our little bit by the side gate . The Ivy was growing in a heap over that gate post . I pulled it all carefully away . I say carefully because underneath was the most beautiful moss .

I then shovelled woodchips from the pile for about half an hour and wheeled it down from the veg garden to spread in between the primroses and lovely ferns .

The ferns are still sleeping , I tidied away their dead leaves .

Look at the beautiful orange moss on the fence . We have had so much rain and the lichens and mosses are looking so vibrant for it .

Beautiful moss on the wall and teeny tiny ferns .

It is a beautiful time right now as one season slips into the next .

Little flashes of summer....

Yet still today the cold wind is blowing from the East .... but dry enough to cut the grass . I wrapped up warm and kicked the lawn-mower into action .

I managed to cut the labyrinth pathways and it is beginning to look in better shape .

New shoots and buds are coming on my roses . I need to cut away the Winter hips .

The Gunnera manicata is stirring from it's Winter slumber .

Hands stinging from bramble scratches and nettle stings ..........

aaaaaah ..............time for a nice cuppatea !

My Labyrinth Rocks !

Yes it really does ! lol ! But I have been thinking about the rocks that I originally put into the labyrinth and having second thoughts about them .

One or two of them now have the most beautiful moss living on them .πŸ’“

This one has become colonised with Lichens . πŸ’“

So , I have made a decision . It's out with all of the small rocks and in with one or two bigger and more interesting ones and , who knows , maybe more of these fascinating plants will move in .

On the way home - Trerice

So here we are driving back from Dorset and now through beautiful Cornish countryside .

There was one place we wanted to visit on the way back ....

.........it was quite a bit further than we remembered ....

......down narrow , winding country lanes ....feeling queezy at this point ...deary me......lol !... I don't travel too well in cars ...but I knew that it was just about at my limit and that I could rest and recover with a nice cup of tea in the cafe on arrival .

So this is the beautiful Trerice Manor at Kestle Mill near Newquay Cornwall .

Trerice is a beautiful Elizabethan Manor House surrounded by stunningly beautiful gardens and now owned by the National Trust .
Today we are just coming to see the Trerice Potager and Labyrinth in the Mowhay .

Very excited to see the Elizabethan Labyrinth ! As you know I have a labyrinth , back home , in my garden and I appreciate the work it takes to keep it looking good !
This labyrinth is actually not strictly a labyrinth at all , but a maze .
It was made according to directions in a very old book "The Gardener's Labyrinth " by Thomas Hill about 1570  . It was very fashionable to have a maze/labyrinth in your grounds back in these times .
It is a beauty ! Love it !

Then near by is the Trerice Potager .

You really have to come and see this lovely little vegetable garden !

I love the trellis fencing around the boundary , I suspect there may be lots of little bunnykins here !

Surrounded by lawn and a neatly clipped box hedge ...and a greenhouse that I was not sure if we might be allowed inside ....so no pics of the inside ...maybe next time !

Lots of different varieties of Apple trees , beautifully tended to .

The gardening team were doing a wonderful job !

They have so much to attend to here !

This is such a good time to visit...amid flowering herbs such as Lavender, Rosemary , Borage and Spearmint Peppermint and Thyme , beans and vegetables ready to harvest .

I felt so happy wandering around the lovely gardens .

We found a pretty place to sit and look over it all .

The ornamental gardens to the front of the house .

My lasting memory of the gardens are of the pure white Japanese Anemones ....

.......with just a touch of blue .
We decided to come again another day to go into the house ....we,ve been before and really did not have time to do it today . ( Thinking about home now )
Just visiting the gardens was a joy enough for me anyway !

I enjoyed my cup of tea and bought a Chocolate Peppermint plant from the Herb Plant stall .

New babies , all safe and ready to head home again !

Along those winding Cornish lanes .

We saw this beautiful cottage garden ! Look at it ! Isn't it wonderful ! Giving everybody joy as they drive past ! ( and hopefully make them slow down....I know ...I live down a country lane like this too ..people drive too fast ! )
We saw the lady tending to it ...lovely Begonias and Cannas and gorgeous hanging baskets . It takes a lot of work to put on a display like this ! Maybe I,ll give this a go next year  !  :)

You have to drive slower along our Cornish roads and lanes .

The Cornish hedges look might soft but are built of rock ...so keep over !!

Through our beautiful Cornish countryside .

Old Cornish tin mines and engine houses along the way .

          Have a snooze ......

............but it is so beautiful , all along the way !

Farmers are cutting the meadows and fields and preparing for Winter  .

Can we see the sea yet ? Are we nearly there ?   :)

                                              Poldhu Cove Mullion

                                                       Home !
