Driftwood 🀩 🌿

🀩   Me finding lovely piece of driftwood on the beach 🀩
Well no , it didn't fit in my bag but yes , I managed to drag it back back up the beach and sneak it in behind and partly under the front seat of the car without Ricardo noticing it ! He was far too busy up in the Charmouth Heritage Centre having a fossil identified anyway .

                                                       Yes !  I got it home !

Isn't it beautiful ? Look at that ! Appears to have been tarred down the middle and holds water .

What ever was it ?  Part of an old ship ?  It looks like the head of an eagle  .

                                       Fallen in love !  πŸŒΏπŸ’šπŸŒΏ

                                                   πŸŒΏπŸ’šπŸŒΏ

Greenhouse - The Big Tidy Up ! 🌡πŸ₯’πŸŒΏπŸ…πŸ•·️

I made a start on clearing out the tomatoes , cucumbers and sweet peppers . I am only keeping a couple of each of them to ripen up the remaining fruit .

I have dragged them out in their growing pot/bags and I will empty them onto the African Keyhole Bed where I am growing Butternuts and Pumpkins .  I am hoping the extra bit of compost will give all the Squash a boost !

I spied a Cucumber wandering through the Epies !

😱 Found this poor neglected Agave ....bone dry and shrivelled up . I've given it a good drink and we'll see if I can revive it .
It might be too late !  πŸ€”

There is a lot of sweeping out to be done and I have ordered a special brush from Amazon that can get into all the corners .

I am getting all my greenhouse over-Wintering things ready . Insulation roll , polystyrene sheets , newspaper sheets , fleece , lantern and candles ........and a couple of buckets to catch the rain that comes through the leaking roof and door .

It makes me feel so happy to see all my cacti back on the bench .

πŸ™‚   Actually this is not all of them ....there are more to be brought back in from the porch .πŸ˜ƒ So this lot are going to have to budge up to make room for them ! πŸ€£πŸŒ΅πŸŒΏπŸ€

See you later , time for lunch !

Just a Quick Saturday Update

Good morning . I have had a bad migraine and need to take some time out from the computer for a few days .    Worries .....just worries ....sigh .

Anyway here's a few pics for you  . I cut the pathway in the labyrinth and Ricardo trimmed the walls ....  I was told off for pulling up the Aquilegia that was growing in the middle ...I got carried away weeding and pulled it up by mistake ....I was upset about it too !  I have bought some Anemone corms to plant in it's place , which should be lovely .

A few pics of in the shed ...the Epiphyllums are waking up ,  two varieties of lettuce , Evesham Sprouts , radishes ,  onions and leeks .

The Leeks are looking good ...always reliable . L . Blue de Solaise .

I am not sure if I will do onions from seed this way again in the future ....mainly because I am going to need the space soon for all the salad stuff. Lettuces ,coriander , flowers , cuttings and I'll be sowing my beans and butternuts soon ....I need the space !

Note to self -  I need to clean the shed window !

A few pics from the greenhouse . Showing how I have been covering the seedlings over at night and uncovering them first thing in the morning .

Hopefully it should start getting warmer now .

Cucumbers are not liking it . Hope I can pull two or three through .

Roma and Alicante Tomato babies looking good and I will have a few spare to give to my daughter and neighbour.

Cocktail Crush ....only four have made it . Very disappointed with that one and I already know that I won't be growing it again .

Sweet Peppers - dawdling - looking good though - they are waiting for a bit more sunshine .

I need a cherry type tomato to replace F1 Super Sweet 100 which didn't do quite as well as it usually does for me last year . I had thought Cocktail Crush would be a good replacement , but now I'm not sure . Maybe it will pick up when I repot them .Supposed to have good flavour . πŸ…πŸ…πŸ…

I continue to bring back the cacti that are in the front porch , up to the greenhouse . I have lost quite a few , which makes me sad . Some of the Epiphyllums were cuttings from my grandmother's plants . I have no idea where she got them from . Extremely rare plant back then . Some of these are hard to find even today !

                                            Euphorbia stellata .

Leuchtenberger principis ......a delightfully weird cactus !

Veltheimia bracteata taking it's time to open up her flowers .

I could make it bloom faster by bringing her into my kitchen , lovely but it always gets so tall !

So , this year , here she stays  !

And lastly ......

                                  The Crassula "Buddha's Temple"

My latest acquisition . To replace my lovely big one that went missing . Goodness me this was hard to find !

                                                        🌿πŸͺ·πŸŒΏ

                Anyway , that's all for now !

                                   Make it a great week ! πŸ¦‹

1st March - Greenhouse ,Veg Trug , Potatoes

Up early to uncover the seedlings in the greenhouse .

I think it is going to be another sunny warm spring day....maybe the odd passing sprinkle of rain drops .

Even the nettles look beautiful covered in frost .

Jack Frost rarely visits us here , so forgive me , when he does , I get so excited to go out and look at the lovely sparkles close up !

Oh ! This morning's Sunrise was so beautiful ! Let's take a peek o' the onion bed .....

Nice little oniony shoots coming up under the grids . (  to stop the birds pulling them up , thinking the new shoots are worms )

So come on , let's go see , what's going on up in the greenhouse .

All the seedlings are covered with fleece and sheets of newspapers .
( mmmm- get the incense burner going ✨πŸ•Š️✨πŸ’›)

( and a nice bit of Bob Marley playing on my mobile phone 🎡🎢🎢πŸ₯🐀πŸ₯)

Did they survive the night ?

They survived another night ! Yay !

Still a little bit woozy from being transplanted , but they will soon get their roots down .

                             πŸ¦– Bug and slug protection !  🐌🐌🐌πŸͺ³πŸœπŸ•·️πŸͺ°πŸŒ

So I have had my lantern going over-night  to just take the edge off the cold .

Insulation roll laid along the rafters .

Insulation stuff rolled out along the rafters and shade netting for the Epiphyllums .

More shade netting along the North side of the greenhouse, trellis for the Epies to scrabble about and climb on ...and behind the trellis I have pushed in a car windscreen thingy for added warmth .

                            Tiny Tomato seedlings  🌱🌱🌱

                                           Grow ! 🌱Grow ! 🌱 Grow !🌱

Veg Trug update -

Veg Trug -husband working very hard , doing some maintenance work on it . Needs clearing out , painting , new liner , and re-filling with fresh earth / compost .

The old exhausted compost to be mixed with some plain garden earth and used to fill the potato tubs .

I am doing potatoes in tubs again this year , really to get my grand daughter involved , learning where potatoes come from and all the fun of harvesting them at the end .

The tubs will also serve to hold that heavy black plastic sheet down over that flaming bindweed zone !

All ready to start planting ! The seed potatoes are presently chitting indoors on a cool and not too bright windowsill .

I have also done another lot which are planted in pots in the garage , as they arrived too early . I must go and check on these actually . They might be ready to plant out now .

Or ...I could probably forget all about them  !   ..... It happens !

So , all is well .....

Then back indoors to light the fire , warm up my cold hands . Do brekkers . .

Poached egg , cheese on marmite on toast .... orange juice  ..... put feet up , still in recovery from gastric enteritis , taking it easy , rest in armchair surrounded with my embroidery stuff .... bliss ......
