Leeks

Still aching from yesterday , but up early and got on with it .

Glad I did , because it really was quite weedy and I filled the wheelbarrow .

Very awkward because there was no space to plonk my kneeling mat . I had to stand carefully between the Leeks and reach down to pull the weeds .

Oh boy !  I am really aching now  !

So now I have done the Kale , Brussel sprouts and Chives bed .

I took out all the French Beans and planted that bed up with Lavender .

I weeded out the Leeks and Globo onions bed .

Note - I grew the Globo onions from seed ...they are not as giant as they were supposed to be but useable .

I know , I say it every year " I am not growing Onions next year ! I'm sticking with reliable Leeks !"

Two beds still to be weeded .....but that's all I can do for today .... exhausted !

Hoping for some rain to come .☁️πŸŒ₯️☁️☁️

Ooh ....you know the season is changing when these start coming in !

Kale

So I,ve been battling through the day with migraine . There was talk of rain possibly coming out way , so I wanted to get my Kale seedlings planted out .

I had to keep stopping and starting , having a flop . It was a real drag , but I was really keen to get this done .

This was where the onion sets were ....a complete waste of time and effort . I gave up after the first heatwave . I couldn't keep up with the watering and no one helped me to fix the stupid hose .

And then the deer munched my Brussel sprouts ....and the gales smashed my Runnerbeans to pieces ..and two lots of courgette seeds failed .

Apart from the beautiful Chives that I grew from seed , this vegetable bed was almost a complete fail  .

So I climbed in and weeded it all out .  The ground is so hard and dry . It was very hard work .

( The onions are the same size as when I first planted them  ! )

I decided to throw in the spent tomato compost .

I pulled out the most miserable  Brussel sprout specimens and then started to feel a bit more positive about everything .

                                           Found a baby carrot !

...and enjoyed the sweetest and most fragrant nibble πŸ₯•

And that reminded me of just why we like to grow our own vegetables . There is nothing like the sweet taste of home grown vegetables fresh from the earth .

I stopped again for lunch .

Then brought my Kale seedlings down from the shed .

A nice selection of a Dwarf variety  , Vate's Blue and Cavolo Nero Kales .

I have more that I will continue to grow on in the shed .

I got them watered and all covered over and then had to open it up again when I noticed a Cabbage White Butterfly in side !
All that messing about with netting ! Ugh !
Tomorrow I have to repair the holes in the netting .  🦌  I found an old walking stick to hold the other end of the netting up .

Aching like Hell !  But glad to have got this job done !

Tomorrow I need to weed the Leeks !

                          The rain didn't come ..... maybe tonight .....  🌦️🌧️🌘🌧️

πŸͺ»Lavender πŸͺ»

I had a lovely surprise this morning , on my way up to the greenhouse and I just happened to have my mobile phone with me .  I'm fairly new to using a mobile phone , so please be kind and forgive the creakiness , heavy breathing and the sound of the gale that is still blowing here right now . 🦌

Always a joy to see .....even though he has eaten my Brussel Sprout plants and chomped two big holes  through the net covering to get to them too !

Yesterday , we drove over to Godolphin Manor , which is somewhat near Breage .

The weather is still being very strange , sunshine and extremely windy  .

We just went for a nice walk around the Elizabethan gardens ....

......and for a glorious barefoot walk around the soft meadow .

            Feels so nice ......

Around the back there are two medieval fish ponds .

Usually very squadgy  but now dried up and bone dry in the heat wave  .

I was able to jump in , so to speak and swim over to say hello and have a closer look at the beautiful wicker woven sculpture fish .

They are wonderful !

Had a little tree therapy .....

..........and a little more bare foot earthing .

It was a nice and gentle Sunday  πŸ’☀️😊

🦌 Today , I am back in my gardening clothes .

I decided to take out all the French Beans and the Sweetcorn and replace them with Lavender .

These are the plug plants that I bought some time ago and are now big enough to be planted out .

πŸͺ»I just want masses and masses of lovely Lavender and a space in the middle to sit down and enjoy them in all their glory !   πŸͺ»πŸͺ»πŸͺ»

Maybe a space to lie down would be cool !

I decided to leave the beanpoles up and do beans again next year . Or maybe plant the Passion Flowers in here ....or maybe both !  πŸͺ»πŸͺ»πŸŒΊπŸͺ»πŸŒΏ

Any hoo ...I am glad to have got these into the ground today . I am hoping for a little raincloud to come over and water them in for me , overnight would be good .  Just to settle them in . πŸͺ»πŸͺ»πŸͺ»

                                        πŸͺ»πŸͺ»πŸͺ» PEACE AND LOVE πŸͺ»πŸͺ»πŸͺ»
