Parc Eglos School - Growing a Sunflower from seed Summer holiday Project - 21 August - update

 

Our Sunflower was now very tall. Too tall for the greenhouse and I don't think the bunnies will try and nibble it now .

 We dragged her out and put her by the front door .

Click to see closer . You can see the seeds forming now . The birds will enjoy eating them , but we will save some for growing next year .

We were so happy to see the fully opened Sunflower . We have to keep giving her water , especially through this hot weather . 

We watched the Bees , Soon there will be lots of seeds for the birds to eat and some to save to grow next year .

                              This was the awesome sunrise this morning .

         It is just after 2pm here and the temperature is 84 degrees F !

             

  I went up to the greenhouse to check on the Sunflower .

                             The flower is beginning to open .

Growing a Sunflower - Parc Eglos School Summer Holiday Project - update

 

As you know , my grand daughter and I have been growing a Sunflower from seed , for her school summer holiday project . 

The children have been asked to bring in a photo of their Sunflowers when they go back to school in September .

Well , whenever I have tried Sunflowers for my garden , the bunnykins always get in and munch on them .

So we have been growing this one in the greenhouse . I'm sure it must be the only one in Cornwall being grown in a greenhouse ! 

I couldn't risk anything happening to my grand daughter's Sunflower ! There would be big time tears !

Anyway , all is well and it hasn't gone through the roof ( yet )  but look , there is a big fat flower bud !

                              We can see her beautiful yellow petals inside .

Similar photo of the sunrise as yesterday's , except today's sunrise was at 5.23 am . Three minutes later . 

Once again I am up early to water everything before the temperature sky rockets . It was already 62degrees F.

It's now 2pm and 73degrees F .  I don't understand why , when we have so many emojis, and symbols available to us on the keyboard and computer , why , why , why do they make inserting the "degree" symbol so difficult to do ?   Press ALT then + then 0176  ...my fingers just wont do that grrrr ! 

O.k so I picked a good bowl of courgettes and cucumbers this morning . Very happy !

Paddington came over and enjoyed his tea-party .

I uploaded that one by mistake , because what I wanted to show you was the Sunflower Parc Eglos School Project update .....but we had such a lovely quiet time doing that , so I left it on .

                                    " There's a bud in there Grandma ! "

We have had such fun watching this grow . It is now in a much bigger pot  .

They will be breaking up from School at the end of this week I think . The children have been asked to bring in a photo of themselves with their Sunflowers .

So I,ve printed out one for her to take in to school , but sadly not with a sunny flower on top yet .

We will continue to watch it grow and flower during the school summer holidays .

Then she showed me how fast she can run ! Then we had ice-lollies .

Then to the park  for some real fun on the zip-wire ,before going home . 

 It is so hot right now . I made sure she had her sun hat and sun-cream on and plenty of juice and water . Children naturally  just ask for water when they are thirsty , where as so many of  us adults forget about it . I know I do ,but I am working on that one . We have our water bottles with us at all times and if we are not out and about then they go in the fridge .

Husband is watching the tennis ...I am not ....because it makes me fall asleep . In fact I don't watch much t.v  for the same reason .

So I finish with this pic of the shed . Still packed with things to plant out .

Tomato plants are at either end with dwarf french beans and cavolo nero kale in the middle ...and one or two lettuce plants .

  " Help ! Help ! Let us out ! "   "No ! you have to wait until I've pulled up all the onions and made space for you . I also need to get another net to keep the greenflies , cabbage white butterflies , pigeons and bunnykins off you !  

 So stay cool , be watered and be beautiful and lush in the shed for a little bit longer . "

It's easier for me to water them in there too for the time being . 

Yes I have conversations with my plants . 

  

Growing a Sunflower for school

 

5.30am this morning in the vegetable garden .

So I survived yesterday 's adventures with the Grandchildren ....just about !

It was so nice to have them romping about and enjoying freedom to run through the long grass .

Throwing his new baseball , without the dog catching it and destroying it ....

....narrowly missing the Summerhouse window and losing it in a big clump of Agapanthus .

Sliding down banisters !

We took them off to Marazion for Chicken Nuggets , chips and fruit drinks and a rubbish free toy .

Then burnt off some more energy in Mullion's brilliant children's swings park , playing basket ball and going on the zip-wire .

Home for Grandpa's famous scrambled eggs on toast for tea .

Then back outside for more running in the meadow .

Then remembering we had some homework to do for school .

So we lined a pot with newspaper and enjoyed putting our hands into the compost .

Sowed the one little Sunflower seed and decorated the top with pretty stones .

A very meditative  half an hour ....

.....and watered it in .

Watched the water soaking slowly down ...and the bubbles .

Then took it back into the shed to stand on the bench with all Grandma's other plants and .....

...with Benny the Gnome to stand guard over it .   

Then watered Grandpa's Strawberries ( that Grandma planted 🙄)

Then Grandpa took her back to the park for more zip-wire fun while Grandma watched Formula one racing cars and learned how to sit on the floor leaning against the sofa with one leg stretched out in front and one foot propping your bottom just a few inches off the floor arms outstretched with a pretend steering wheel , making racing car noises .

Sorry ...there is no picture of that ! 

Then the others returned ...

...and then we bundled both of them into the car and took them home .

Had our walk across the cliffs .

Saw this beautiful Buzzard .

And then were very glad to get home and flop ! 

And then ....

And then nothing ..just flop ! 

It was a wonderful day , making happy memories !
