Sweet Daffodils in my garden right now .
Meanwhile in the shed ......
I'd been noticing one or two of those pesky compost flies . And ordered a box of these yellow sticky fruit fly traps things from Amazon £3.49
There is no way any other insects such as butterflies or bees can get in to the shed , so only these sciarid flies will be caught .
πͺ°πͺ°Sciarid flies lay their eggs in damp compost . The eggs hatch maggots πππ. The maggots eat soft plant tissue including my seedlings tender roots and shoots . π±π±π±π±π±
I do not want them in my plant pots !
Easy to use . Just peel off both sides and push it into the pots . They are wickedly sticky !
Hopefully I have done this in good time .

I wouldn't be surprised if there is an influx of these. The compost inside.
ReplyDeleteI just watched a youtube video of a lady in America and she says she always puts her compost in a plastic bag and nukes it in the microwave for four minutes to kill the compost fly larvae . I have done that in the past to sterilize small amounts of compost before sowing rare cactus seeds , but I had not thought of doing this for general use . π€
