Pumpkin Harvest 2018

So here they are ! A fine selection of Squash ...not as many Butternuts as I would  have liked , but lots of other interesting varieties . We usually make soup or chop them up and roast with our Sunday roast potatoes .

There are still a couple more to harvest .
The weather is glorious again here in Mullion , blue skies,n,warm sunshine and set to continue for the next few days .
Time to clear all the Squash vines and plant out my onion sets .

  1. I need gardening lessons from you. Our garden was wonderful this year and we were able to can up a lot of great food for winter, but my squash just didn't do well at all and this is the second year that I have not had a good crop. The first year (three years ago . . . I'm new to gardening and country living) that I planted I had enough spaghetti squash to feed an army. I don't know what I've started doing wrong. Any suggestions?
Your crop looks wonderful and so many different kinds . . . I love it and they are so pretty.
    Have a sweet day.
    Connie :)

    1. Hello Connie my friend , I think its just a case of "some you win and some you lose"...just dont give up , try again next year maybe the earth needs a rest from that crop or needs extra nutrients put back into the earth ...maybe some plants needed more feeding/nitrogen for leafy crops , phosphorus for root crops and potassium for flowers and fruit etc.I,m still learning and always try and read up about everything I grow here . Our Butternuts were a bit of a disappointment , so I am glad that I tried a few other Squashes . We had such extraordinary hot weather this summer and no rain for such a long time, the "key-hole bed " is designed to cope with that but all my other veg beds are flat and it was hard to keep it all watered . Hopefully the weather will go back to normal next year. I didn't grow Spaghetti squash this year, but will put it on my list for next season as it is a wonderful and yummy squash .I think you can spend a life time learning gardening...but I love it ...growing things from seeds or little cuttings on the kitchen windowsill is just endlessly fascinating to me :)
Thanks for popping in , you have a lovely day too . Daisy Debs x
