Aloe striatula - weeding frenzy again !

                                              Aloe striatula

Yesterday evening  - I was walking round the garden .....like a teddy bear ....when I spotted these lovely Aloe flowers .

Then noticed to my utmost horror all the brambles growing through it !

You see , from the distance  , the lawn looks lovely, hubby just cut it . It all looks fairly tidy .

Well I pulled out a few tools and made a start  .

...... very quickly realised that I needed more serious equipment  ...

5.30 am - this morning  -   I got out there and brought in the "more serious equipment " !

The trunks of my two Trachycarpus were covered in Ivy . Here you can see I have stripped off the one at the front and you can just about see the one behind , absolutely covered in it !

The brambles were popping up everywhere , the Ivy creeping along the ground and stinging nettles coming up through it all !

Stress ! ...and in there somewhere are three Dahlias !

I needed to get on and do as much of this as I could before the sun became too hot for me .

7.10am  ..... It doesn't look much different .

That was two huge wheelbarrow loads !

I still have a lot more to clear . I haven't even got as far as the Aloe yet , because the brambles coming through there are coming through from behind  . So I had to seriously prune back the lovely African Bush Daisy - Euryops - I think it's called ?

I will take some cuttings though . It is a lovely thing . It's been flowering since Christmas .

It does seem to respond well to being pruned hard back every now and then . Good to keep it in a more compact shape I think .

So as for the Aloe striatula ... I will get back to weeding around it later on today , when the sun goes behind the trees and casts a nice cool shadow for me .

 8.45am -  brekkers

That's all fer now folks !  Stay cool and have a great day !

๐ŸŒฟWeeding Frenzy ! ๐ŸŒฟ

Looks good from a distance .

Not so good close up  .

A really horrible and very depressing mess ....sigh ...

Something got in there and grazed my onion sets down to the grids . Thank goodness I put grids over them . I hope they will come back .

I needed to take off the old chicken wire ....I use it until it becomes rusty and beginning to crumble . I just let it go too far this time .

Also while my back was turned , the weeds sprung up .

                                                     Weeding frenzy !

I took out all the rusting and ripped chicken wire and  pulled back the netting and filled a couple of wheel barrows with the weeds .

We decided to take out the garlic .

And replace that end of the vegetable bed with Sprouts ...and maybe sow some carrots  .

Hubby very excited about the garlic ! I said he could have it if he did a bit of raking for me .
He also did the edges ! Which really made a big difference .

The Garlic is now drying off on a rack in the shed .
At some point we stopped for lunch .....and almost a nap ....

Then got back to work .
I'm starting to feel better about this vegetable bed now , but still a long way to go .

The weather is said to be getting very warm , followed by possible thunderstorms and heavy rain on Friday  ( ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–คKernow Weather Team ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ–ค)
This morning it has been very warm with typical Cornish mizzle in the air  .  I can't work when it is hot and really wanted to get this bed sorted before the temperatures rise . Also the vegetable garden will be very grateful for the rain when it comes  .
  So ...

Lime , chicken pellets , slug pellets and cabbage collars .
Trod them in good and hard ....to get nice tight sprouts .
I scattered a packet of carrot seeds down ....
I didn't check to see if they are good companions .
Too late now , they had just better get along !

.........there are also a couple of rows of chives in this bed .  So pretty and easy to grow from seed .

I pulled the netting back over the whole bed this time . So glad that it could reach to the other end over hoops and the old garden fork in the middle to support it .

This took me most of the day and my head is still spinning from hanging upside down weeding and planting !

Weeding frenzy - Courgette bed prepared

It was a little bit cooler by late afternoon .

I decided to go on a weeding frenzy !  I got it done .

Those Courgette plants are screaming at me "Plant us out ! "

They are really growing away fast now .

Some have female flower buds on already .

I will plant them all out tomorrow .
