🐿️Another Day in the Greenhouse πŸπŸ‚

After doing a huge heap of ironing , I set off to check on the second wave of Sweet Peppers up in the greenhouse .

There are five very nice green Sweet Peppers ( Snack Bite Red ) and with the promise of more sunshine coming this week , they should be ready very soon .

The cacti and succulenti collection all looking happy . I will stop watering them now as we're going into the cold Winter months .

I will be sorting out all my greenhouse Winter insulation stuff this weekend .
Blue sky here today , it's lovely ☀️ and I think it is set to be lovely for most of next week .

A quick check in the shed . Onions and Lettuces all looking good .

Remember the plants I rescued from the rubbish tip ? πŸ˜€ They look like Primroses to me , but  look ! I spied a Calendula / Marigold coming up  in amongst them ! Perfect for my kitchen windowsil hanging basket !  Hooray !

I'm not doing any gardening today , I put on a pretty dress to prevent me from getting stuck into doing anything earthy .
I can hear Ricardo busy strimming away outside .

I am going to put my feet up and finish off my Angel embroidery and the small patchwork project I have been doing for my Hallowe'en loving brother .

I have been working as fast as I can on this to get it done in time . My fingers are all pricked and sore from stitching .

                   It's just a little mug mat   ☕πŸ«–☺️

                     Autumnal more than Hallowe'eny .

                    Here's a little peek of the other side .  🐿️ πŸπŸ‚

I'll show the whole of it after he's recieved it in the post next week .

                        Love and Peace πŸ€πŸ•Š️🌿

Still No Rain ☀️

      Today's little harvest......

Another good bowl full of peas and beans .

A couple of courgettes and a few kale leaves for lunch .

The tomatoes today are strangely huge  πŸ€” Scatolone 2 I hadn't expected them to be so big !   There is some inconsistency in the shape . This one is round ......

                         ................others are pear shaped  .

Sweet Pepper Snack Bite Red  have all come at once . I have taken them all off and they will be sliced and put into the freezer . Not sure if the plants will produce any more now ....have to give them a good feed and wait and see !

Most places around Cornwall had a small amount of rain yesterday .....but not us on the Lizard !

It was misty over-night , the ground damp first thing in the morning ..... bone dry again very soon after the sun came up .

The heat is very tiring .

Which varieties will I grow next year ? 🌢️πŸ«‘πŸŒΏ

Still picking cucumbers .... so much nicer than supermarket ones .

"Snack Bite Red " Sweet peppers ..... plenty of them !  Husband loves them !

The only thing I would say about this variety is that they all seem to come at once ......but maybe this is because of the heatwaves we've been having . I will slice , open-freeze , bag them all up and throw them into the freezer .

Next year I think I will go back to Sweet Pepper "Corno di Toro Rosso" which are the slightly bigger, longer pointed type .

This is Sweet Pepper Corno di Toro Rosso . This time last year just to compare .

Sweet Pepper Corno Di Toro Rosso this time last year .

                                                Very nice !

Cucumber " Carmen " and the shorter one is "Merlin"

Next year I will only be growing  Cucumber "Carmen"...very happy with this one .

No ripe Tomatoes today , but lots of green ones still coming .

As for the tomatoes .... This year I grew Tomato "Divinity"F1 and Tomato "Scatolone 2 "   they are o.k. nice flavour and texture , fleshy, not too many seeds ,  but I'm not blown away by them . Maybe it's the heatwave , but there seems to be quite a bit of inconsistency in the size and shape of them .

Next year I will grow Tomato Scatolone 2 and probably go back to reliable old Tomato Alicante again .

Now I am off to pick beans and peas for lunch πŸŒΏπŸ«›πŸ«›πŸ«›

Weather forecast  - clouds floating on by - still no rain πŸŒ₯️ uncomfortably warm .

                              Peace and Love  πŸ•Š️

πŸŒΏπŸ…Harvesting a few Tomatoes makes me Happy πŸŒΏπŸ¦‹

In my happy place earlier this morning .

My Snack-bite Red Sweet Peppers are looking amazing !

Pelargonium Amethyst is still putting on a lovely show .

Bowiea volubilis  scrabbling up to the rafters is also flowering now .

                                Flowers like little stars !

Passiflora manicata is growing well . I think I'm going to repot it into a much bigger pot and put it into one corner of the greenhouse where it can grow like crazy and hopefully flower .  Red ! It's going to have a red flower !   πŸ€—  Ooh there's a little cucumber !

In amongst the Monstera delicosa vine I find another one ready to pick .

I grow just enough for two and I take some over to my daughter if she needs them . The rest I slice in half , open freeze and bag up for the freezer . We are still using up last year's harvest .

Watering everything is becoming absolute drudgery now πŸ˜’ ..... we really need some proper rain .

We had some mizzle the night before last , but really , the dew on the grass was more plentiful than the overnight rain .

The sun is shining but it's blowing a gale here ! and it has been like this for the last two or three days .

I'm having a quiet day today ....

........ in the summerhouse , sharing a few biscuit crumbs with my friend .

         πŸ•Š️🀍🎢    Yep ...I'm in a medieval mood again ..... πŸ¦ŒπŸΉπŸŒ³πŸ¦‹

I'd be far happier back in those times   .

I probably wouldn't be growing tomatoes , peppers or cucumbers though ....or potatoes ................what no chips ? !!!  😱

                 Peace and Love πŸ€πŸ•Š️🌿

Day five of Fog

Yep day five of fog . We need the sun to come out now and dry out the hay .

Our  Cornish Elm has really gone downhill with the Dutch Elm disease  ...sigh....the leaves have only appeared on the lower  half of the tree .

On my way to the greenhouse this morning , I'm thinking how lush everything is today . We had torrential rain over-night  . No need to go around with the watering can today .

Incy wincy has made a new web , but he's hiding , just watching and waiting .

So , in the greenhouse we go ......

                                         Oh yeah !  ☺️

                                           Oh yeah !  ☺️

Oh my goodness !  Here come the Sweet Peppers !
This year I'm growing one called "Snackbite Red " Sown in February .

I am quite impressed with these so far . Looking good !

                      Cucumbers 🌿.......

........just doing what Cucumber plants do 🌿🌿🌿🐝

The Primrose like leaves coming up in the Ledebouria pot has not gone unnoticed .
I will have to sort them out later on .

This old Epiphyllum needs re-potting .
I think it is a gorgeous red flowering one .
This was from my mum's plant , who in turn had a piece from my Grandmother's plant .
I have no idea from where my Grandmother acquired it . No garden centres back in her day .
                   πŸŒΏπŸŒΏπŸŒΏ            🌿🌿🌿           πŸŒΏπŸŒΏπŸŒΏ
I'll take off that yellowing Phylloclade . Not strictly being a leaf as such .....rather a modified stem having the function of a leaf .

I will make several cuttings from that .

Epiphyllum Curt Backberg ....broken ....grrrr.....  🐈‍⬛

             Epiphyllum Curt Backeberg flower .
🐈‍⬛I suspect a neighbour's cat has been in again and broken off a couple of branches from this Epie .  Grrr ......( it's not really a very safe place for a puddy tat in a cactus greenhouse ! )  🌡
Oh well !  I gave these to a couple of friends at church this morning .
I only give cuttings to people who I know have green fingers , will love them and can make them grow !

I fixed up netting to stop the cat coming in . I have also had to usher out the Robin who follows me everywhere .

I rescue bees and butterflies with the aid of a children's rock pool fishing net .

                                      Oooh !  ☺️

Kalenchoe ..I have several varieties and can't remember their names .
Mother of Thousands is it's more folky name .
She is flowering right now and there are thousands of babies !

Gawd ! What am I going to do with them all !
Let me know if you'd like one !

Selenicereus chrysocardium ....... I call it my Whale's Tail Epie    πŸ‹

It lives on my bathroom windowsill .
It had some mealiebugs . I treated it and left it outside last night in the rain , to rinse it off .🌧️ Lordy didn't it rain hard last night !  🌧️🌧️🌧️
It looks so much better this morning .  Refreshed !

I think the sun is trying to come out .☀️ Time for lunch and then off for a walk .

Love and Peace πŸ•Š️ Go and make it a great day !

                                         Love Debbie πŸ’x
