Morning Walk about the Garden

After several mowings  , the Labyrinth is looking much better now .

This morning it is overcast and I think the weather continues to be unsettled for the week .

Update on Jessie's Giant Echium ๐ŸŒฟ

It is still growing taller ! I can see big fat buds !

How this has remained standing through all the Winter storms I have no idea !

Meanwhile my self sown "normal sized " Echiums are popping up all over the place ! These will probably flower next year .

The Agaves are looking sensational ! I'm hoping Agave salmiana var ferox (the one at the back ) will flower soon .

There are some Sweet peas and Black-Eye Suzies in the red tub .

Good morning  little Monkey-puzzle tree  ๐Ÿ’  Look but don't touch .  Branches like razorblades !

                                          But SO handsome !

Chamaerops humilis - a little bit wind scorched , but flowering .

Azara serrata - Is one you must put on your want list .

The honey fragrance of these golden flowers is just Heavenly ! ๐Ÿ

The Tree fern is stirring  .  I pushed my camera in for a closer look ......

Have a lovely day and take time to stop, look closer and enjoy your garden .

Plans

                    ๐ŸŒถ️๐Ÿซ›๐Ÿซ‘๐Ÿ…   Hooray ! More vegetable happiness ! ๐Ÿ…๐Ÿซ‘๐Ÿซ›๐ŸŒถ️

Another hot day  and I will have to wait until the sun goes behind the trees to get started on this ....

So from far left to far right things have got to change !  ( a bit like politics at the moment , but I'm not going into all that .....sigh )

As I was saying  - Plans for when the birds have stopped nesting - Fir tree on the left is going to be cut down to the height of the fence .

Branch of next doors Crab Appletree which we allowed to grow through the fence , which used to flower and have the most beautiful red crab apples is dying . So I am going to saw it off and repair the fence .

Pittosporum - I will be lopping down by two thirds .  It can then spread out and really set off the Photinia "Red Robin" that is at the end of the Cornish hedge on the far left .

Photinia "Red Robin " needs another prune to keep it's gorgeous red leaves coming  .

After the Pittosporum is a pretty variegated Holly and my favourite Camelia "Water Lily", with it's pale pink flowers with pointy petals just like a water lily ! ๐Ÿชท

Rowan Trees -two of them - one of my favourite trees - Remind me of when I used to play in the woods . We lived on the edge of the wonderful Abbey Woods .๐ŸŒณ๐ŸŒณ I used to know every track and tree .๐Ÿƒ๐ŸŒณ Ancient Tumuli , where to find the best fossils , grass snakes and gather the fattest Sweet Chestnuts ๐Ÿ‚, the shortcut home from St Josephs Convent School , the Abbey ruins at the bottom (  I have an ancestral link to that place - there's more to this world than we will ever understand , but that's a story for another day ! ...maybe Halloween  ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ˜ฎ ) The immaculate gardens , the smart park keepers and the little cafe . I expect it is all changed now ...I hope not too much .

I wonder if the Rowan Trees are still there ? At the top of the woods ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฟ

Their sprays of bright orange red berries ..so lovely !

Echiums - the Giant Eeks ! - Lots of seedlings coming for next year .

Cotinus coggygria - Also known as the Smoke Bush -  I am taking off the two tallest branches , which I kept to allow it to show off it's "smoking" flowers .So then we can see the lovely variegated Holly and Camelia "Water Lily "  I will keep the lowest branches, which will really set off the Chamaerops humilis .

Chamaerops humilis - I am (eventually trust me ๐Ÿคฃ) going to drastically tidy up .

..and weed the bit in the foreground ....Agave , Irises , Pink Rose , Dahlias , Cowslips .

The row of yellow fir trees - I keep to the height of the fence and I planted them to buffet the wind from the fence . Also home to little birds nesting .

Monkey Puzzle - Which I grew from seed/nut is now about four feet high .Is looking fabulous already .

It gets better with every year !  Is looking fabulous already .

The other side of the Monkey Puzzle is the bed of "dinner plate" type Dahlias that my lovely daughter gave me . They should be starting to bloom soon .

The Sweet Pea Tub - so when the Sweet peas finished , I had planned to plant this up with Pelargoniums ....but then noticed that the Black -Eye Suzies that I grew last year , where all coming up again !

So I am leaving them to do their thing !

It's one of my mum's favourite plants .

Oh !  ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I see Ricardo has brought Rosie the wheelbarrow down ......๐Ÿคฃ

                                       O.K.   I get the hint !

                                                   ☀️

Sunday Flower Power

6.05 am Sunrise this morning and I just knew it was going to be a fiercely hot day .

I did another good clear out of any yellowing leaves on the tomato plants .

I picked another good bowlful and I can see a few more blushing up ....I'll let these swell a bit more .

I took these to finish off on the kitchen windowsill .

Some hiding under the bench .

But it's getting to the stage where I hang them up in odd places to finish ripening .

The last couple of nights have been cool . The Swallows have been gathering on the telegraph wires .

Next ....

I got to work on pruning and smartening up the Chamaerops humilis in the vegetable garden .

There we go ! Much better ! Just need to sharpen up the edges , give it some chicken pellets and a nice thick mulch of  wood chips .

At some stage I may remove one or two of the lower shoots . . . .think I'll let them get a bit bigger before I decide .

I have another Chamaerops humilis in the ornamental garden , I may do that one tomorrow . It is too hot for me to complete this today .

๐Ÿ’Sunday Flower Power ๐Ÿ’   With lovely Rosie Red Crab Apples  ๐Ÿ’

๐Ÿ’Now looking lovely on the table !๐Ÿ’

Other exciting news ........

My Turmeric tuber !  After almost a whole year , has put up a shoot !  ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Anyone else would have given up .....

Tomorrow ...I will begin smartening up the other Chamaerops  humilis .

After a month of doing the dishes / washing up with my bare hands and of forgetting to buy rubber gloves while doing our main big shop , we finally made a special visit to our local Co-Op store to get them and guess what ? ....the space where they should've been on the shelf ...was empty !

"Don't worry " the shop assistant said " I'll just take a photo with my mobile phone and we'll see if we have some out the back !"

There were none out the back . ๐Ÿ™„

Am I the last woman to do the washing up in the sink ?

Finally bought them in B&Q  !

                                                 I'm such a lucky girl !

I hope you have made magic happen and had a great weekend  .

                                            Love and hugs Debbie  x
