Autumn Cornwall

Slowly turning colder now . Cornus alba "Siberica" is colouring up .

While I was in hospital , all my kale babies in the shed withered away .  I still have some growing outside , this was to be the second wave . Leeks and Kale to feed us during the so called "hungry gap" during February and March .  I can't bend down to pick them now anyway ....sigh .

Here's the Veg Trug !  I had planted it up with red Pelargoniums and the Geranium maderense which I grew from the seeds my brother gave me . They were surprisingly easy to grow and if I can get them through the winter , they will have beautiful sprays of pink flowers .

Remember the little red rose cutting that I had stuck in this shallow pot ? Well I finally got round to taking it out and potting it up .
My brother was asking me what to do with his rose cuttings  ? Well they look pretty good to me  .

I think he could plant them out now or repot into slightly larger pots .

The leaves have already fallen off of mine , but you can see there are new sleeping shoots and leaf buds , which will reawaken next Spring .

I used some multipurpose compost with some perlite mixed in that I found lying around  ....but actually I think just plain old earth from the garden would be fine ...better maybe .
 Looks a bit dry .

Gave it a bit of a drink to settle it in . Leave it by the back door step . Should be o.k through the Winter .....could throw some fleece over it if we get one of those freak arctic blasts .

Lots of berries on my Holly bush and on the the Hawthorn trees in the hedgerow .

They say this is a sign of a very cold Winter to come .

I hope it is not too cold .

My lovely son in law cut the labyrinth for me ........proper job !

All fer now ......cheerio ..... love and hugs  Debbie x

  1. When looking at the abundance of berries this autumn I hear my mums voice, nature looking after it's own, we will see snow this winter. I have my sweet-peas all ready to go.

  2. I so love Holly berries and we have a big bush just outside our main gate. But we've also so many birds living here with us and they also love its berries! So our bush is always so vigorous but without berries, alas. probably they're very good :)

    1. I seem to remember that you have to have both a male and a female type bush . I have no idea how one tells the difference or which varieties they might be though πŸ€”

    1. I can usually get one in five cuttings to strike . I have best success doing them round about now . I just pull off the lower leaves and stick'em in a pot of earth outside over winter , forget about them until next spring . 🌹
