🫘🫛Sowing Beans and Sweetcorn 🌽🌽

🌿English Bluebells in the hedgerow 🌿

So yesterday , all I wanted to do was sow more beans . Nothing else !  Just sow the Dwarf French Beans , Runner Beans and Sweetcorn .

I'd been waiting for the postman to deliver two more Garland covered propagation boxes .

And hooray!  They arrived !

These have the nice deep pots that are so nice and easy to remove the seedlings out from . They are nice and robust . I will be able to re-use these over and  over again .

But I couldn't do it just yet as there was not enough space on the bench in the shed .

The Dahlias had to be moved out and taken down to the woodshed .

These are just beginning to put up shoots . So into the wheelbarrow and off to the woodshed we go .

But before I could put them into the woodshed , I had to move all the plants I'd been over-wintering in there .

My heart sank .

But I got on with it and moved all of the smaller plants . Some to go outside and some cacti to go in the greenhouse ( I know , I know ! Not much space left in there ! I know ! )

The biggest ones could go in the corner where the Banana Plants have been over wintering .

Which meant I had to drag out the two huge Banana plants .

But before I dragged them out , I had to ask my husband to drive out the ride on lawn mower ,which meant he had to get out of his armchair .

With some squidging about I managed to heave the nanas out by myself ....but then I still had to wake him up to move the ride on lawn mower , so that I could get the table out .

As it turned out , he was happy to get the table and the rest of the garden furniture out and we did that together .....and it all went quite smoothly after that . He helped me lift out the table and we carried it down to it's place by the back door and he then was excited to give it a coat of wood-stain .

Which then meant I could drag  the little shelving unit into the woodshed , to put the Dahlias on to .

It'll do for the time being .

It started to get mizzley and actually became quite heavy during the evening . I left the dahlias and the banana plants out to benefit from the rain .

It was very humid and the rain quite warm so not worried about leaving the bananas outside now  . I can always drag them back under cover . We'll see how the weather goes and maybe plant them out the week after next .

The Dahlias need more time under cover . Now they've had a good drink ,I have moved them onto the shelves in the woodshed .

I had to get two huge bags of compost that had been left by the back door , into the wheelbarrow ...

..and then back up to the shed , to sow the beans and sweetcorn . It's been quite a work out !

                                             Job done !

It always seems that , nothing is ever as simple a job , as at first I think it will be !

Weather update - there is the promise of a whole week of beautiful Cornish Sunshine .

This usually means -  warm , with more heavy drifting sea fog , but we'll see !

                                                         ☀️

(🌴 please note - I am in the furthest south west of Cornwall  - it might be too early for you to uncover your Banana plants , tree ferns etc if you are anywhere further up country . I know that there are some little pockets of places that seem to warm up round about now , but not generally and it would be better to wait until around the mid to end of May 🌴 )

  1. I've given my garden a good soak, tomorrow we are heading your way for a few days, going to see the lost gardens of heligan and a few other places. Garden jobs are never straight forward one thing always leads to another.
