🌱Sweet Pepper seedlings update ! 🌱

This morning I pricked out and potted on my Sweet Pepper "Snack bite "seedlings .

I noticed some shoots coming on my Turmeric .

                                    ......very happy me !  ( I had thought I'd lost it ! )

I returned the Sweet Peppers to the heated Garland propagator tray on my bedroom windowsill .

I will keep them here just until they get their roots down , then I'll take them up to the shed  .

I will sow my Tomato seeds the second week of February . I am just warming up their pots of compost .

This year I am growing Tomato Scatolone 2 which is a lovely large , flavourful  plum tomato without so many seeds inside  and Tomato Divinity F1which is said to be a large cherry type .

I think they are both indeterminate or semi indeterminate and bushy but I will give them string supports in my greenhouse . They don't need so much pinching out , both lovely and tall .

I always grow my Tomatoes in the greenhouse . I have never had much success growing them outside .

 The weather  ⛈️🌧️🌦️...... ☀️.......but mostly.... 🌦️🌧️⛈️

As you are probably aware we are still having very stormy weather . Severe gales and torrential rain.

So with the ground being so saturated , I am not able to do much out in the garden , but this is just as well , as I still have a long way to go with my spine injury .  I am pacing myself .

But with my spine slowly healing and getting outside , pottering about and sowing seeds is definitely helping with the horrible anxiety that I have been dealing with . Do you suffer with this ? It is hard to break through the brick wall to do things isn't it ?

It is good to get my hands into the good earth again . It is very healing .

Getting out into the fresh air and walking in nature is good and helps with sleep too .

🌦️Even in the rain ! 🌧️

So half an hour later ....... yep ........ all of them !  ☹️

They'd all passed out !

Don't panic ! Don't panic !

They just don't like being transferred . If this happens to yours , don't worry . Just put the propagator lids over the pots like this and ( πŸ™πŸ» ) and they will soon pick up again .

                                        Told you !  πŸ˜ƒ

πŸŒ±   All shall be well and all shall be well ! 🌱

Meanwhile up in the shed .....

Lettuce begin sowing !

I am growing two Romaine type lettuces . Lovely crisp , long leaved types . One red and one green .

Lettuce Parris Island and Red Romaine Cos . For no other reason than I particularly like the flavour and crispy crunchiness of them .

There are so many different types of lettuce to choose from out there , you choose what you like  , they are all so easy to grow .

Just a very small pinch to begin with .

I sow them on the surface , just gently patting them down .

Gently spray to settle the seeds in , they turn themselves up the way they want to be .

I put them on the bench , in front of the shed's sloping window .

I will watch to make sure they don't dry out , but they should pop up in a few days time .

I will let these grow on , then prick them out and pot them up four or five to a pot . Then I harvest a couple of leaves from each and keep them growing .  At that point I will sow another lot and try to repeat this , so that we will have plenty of lettuce all through the year .

AND

...growing them in the shed like this I can make sure that there are no slugs or snails .🐌🐌🐌

Other news....

      Sauromatum venosum  πŸ¦‡

Sauromatum venosum shoots are still pushing up  !

They are in a pot outside  and it seems that every time I walk past , there are more and more shoots appearing !

Love and Peace to you !  πŸ•Š️

Moving Swiftly on !

Moving swiftly onwards !   My seeds have arrived !

I got the propagator out , switched on . and after letting the compost and that water squisher warm up overnight , yesterday morning I sowed my Sweet Pepper seeds .

I have to really pace myself this year , after serious back injury . I am having physio and doing the exercises .

Today the grass is very damp but I managed to do the first cut of the year to the pathways of the labyrinth . I had to keep stopping and starting to clear the grass clippings from the blades with a stick .

                                Before

A combination of my really painful back and of having non stop rain has prevented me from cutting the grass .

I did think that I might have to let the labyrinth go , it was beginning to get lost in the long grass and I knew it was going to be difficult to cut .

                           After        click twice to view

It still looks a bit rough , but in a couple of days I will cut the pathways again on a lower setting and it'll soon look smart again !

(note - Jess's Giant Echium is still standing ! O.K slightly leaning now maybe !🀣)

I was so pleased with myself that I then made a start weeding the African Keyhole Bed .

It is easier to weed after the rain , I just can't bend down that easily at the moment , so used the rake and throw it into the wheelbarrow method . Rake and throw ! Rake and throw ! Rake and throw !

I was then ordered to stop , go in doors , poke the fire in the woodburning stove and make a cup of tea .

Feeling pleased with myself to have restored the labyrinth a little .

So that's all fer now !

                                              🌿🌧️🌧️🌧️🌿

Storm Goretti

                         The Poldhu Nursing Care Home

You've seen all the news stories and pictures of the damage Storm Goretti wreaked across the far South West of Cornwall .

Yes , lots of trees , but not only trees , but peoples homes have been badly smashed  .  See the above picture of the Poldhu Nursing Care Home . This must have been very ,very frightening for all the residents , their families and staff !

People have been without power, water , internet , and phone connection . So it seems that our new phones can't get a signal to ring for help in an emergency !

We had a very nerve wrecking drive to the hospital and then on to a health centre in a hard to find village , driving down narrow country lanes with fallen trees everywhere .

A big thankyou to the teams of men who were out early , clearing the main roads of fallen trees  that enabled folk to get in to work . ..... such as the nurses and doctors at the hospital and health centre .

A big thankyou to the electricity guys also , out fixing and restoring power to our homes . I'm not sure if everybody is back on yet still .

It has been a really miserable time ,

We have been collecting bottled water . A big thankyou to the guys who were putting it into the boots of our cars .

You've seen all the pictures on the news , so I'm not going to post any more .

A huge thankyou to Kernow Weather Team , who on Facebook ,who were spot on with keeping us all informed with how the storm progressed ,with that really creepy sudden silence and calm before "the eye of the storm" moved on from us and the frightening hurricane force winds started up once again !

Thankfully ...we didn't have any real damage to our cottage  ...... as far as we can see .

Feeling very tired after it all .

Keeping Warm

Twelfth Night

I took down all the Christmas decorations .

Just as we are taking ours down ,I know that many of you out there in other parts of the world are just about to celebrate Christmas . I think on the 6th and 7th of January . Happy Christmas to you and your families .

Look at my sweet little reindeer ! My Granddaughter made this for me at school . It was my favourite Christmas present this year . I will treasure him ! I love the decorative stitching around the edge .

Such a precious and heartwarming gift !  I love him !

The weather at the moment is like this .  Hit and miss showers of sometimes rain , sometimes sleet , sometimes graupel , and sometimes but not for us yet, snow .

I know that children everywhere are hoping for a good lot of snow to play in 🌨️☃️❄️

However this is just not enough to make a snowball let alone a snowman !

                                     ❄️☃️🌨️❄️❄️❄️

It is very cold though , especially in our cottage at the moment .

Our new boiler has broken down  , so the central heating and hot water is not coming on .

Making the best of things !  I've lit the fire , filled hot-water bottles and I'm wearing my hat and scarf .

In fact I went to bed with my wooly hat on !

Our central heating chap is on his way .

                                             ❄️❄️❄️
