 The Acers are the star of the show right now and I thought I 'd take some pics of the lovely Autumn colour before the coming stormy and windy weekend  .

Working in the Woodshed

 Bringing in and stacking more wood to keep us dry and warm this Winter . Thanks to Tom of Expert Trees , also to our neighbour who kindly gave us some . Thankyou to my son in law for both chopping and stacking it all ! Oh my goodness ! He chopped up and stacked all that wood !

I think we are o.k. for wood now . We just need a bit more kindling and newspaper to get the fire going .

                   Wheelbarrow has a flat tyre ....again ! Drat !

Found some interesting toadstools .

 This was a piece of wood at the bottom of the wood pile .

The very last of the tomatoes .

While the ride on lawn tractor is out of the way , I snapped this pic of all the tender plants brought safely in .

The tractor will be parked up in front of the plants and windbreak mesh is pulled across for even more protection .

The cardboard I had saved to one side , I was going to put onto the empty vegetable beds to keep the weeds down and do the whole covering with leaves and sticks and stuff routine.....but I can't do it now ...... or maybe I might try ..... maybe not ...so much pain still .

So much that I want to do , but can't ! Especially sleep ... sigh ....  😞

The green tarpaulin goes over the tractor ......and all the other mess I have no excuse for !

                               But look at those bananas !

                     Aren't they fab ? !!!

                  I put some more dry compost and perlite around their roots .

The colours are just stunning ! 🧡    I hope this Winter won't be too bad .🌿

It is just the usual mizzley day again here on the Lizard . ☁️🌦️🌤️

Propagating Fern Spores Experiment - update

 

Do you remember , back in August I thought I'd have a little go at growing fern spores .

I didn't say much about it at the time , as I didn't think anything would happen .

I just lay a fern leaf on top of some compost in this little seed pot and up popped these tiny immature fern thingies .

                       Well , lets take a look at them now .

 

          Isn't that amazing ! So sweet .  I guess I'll have to prick them out and pot them on soon .

That could be a bit scary , they look so delicate .

This is where I was growing them . On the bathroom windowsill .

The Orchid is still flowering . Orchid flowers last such a long time .

I'm not all that good at growing Orchids , but I have managed to keep two going on this windowsill . 

Oh , this is the mumma fern . The one with the large leaves . The other one is a Boston Fern .  I just brought them in from the garden , into the porch , to over winter .

Bringing in wood for the fire now , on the other side of the porch . 

I can't resist picking up fir-cones to watch them open up .

Voodoo Lilies 🍁🍂🌿

 

I slowly clomped my way up to the shed with my walking frame . My L3 spine injury is causing my leg to be kind of numb , tingling and wobbly . The strength in my legs has really deteriorated , but I am really working on it . Soon I may get some physiotherapy . 

I shouldn't go up this way really ,because It can be slippery ....I had clomped halfway up before I remembered . I must go through the meadow to the lovely new gate , much safer . 

There will eventually be a new fence along here with posts that I can lean on as I go up .

I wanted to check on the plants in the shed and in the greenhouse .

I don't really do Halloween ....🎃✨🧡

But up beside the shed door ...I was very surprised to see .....

                                                        Look at that ! 

            These are the corms my daughter gave me from her garden back in the Summer .

A couple of daffodils shoots in there too ...she has a lovely garden , stuffed with interesting things .

                                                Wow... that was a nice surprise .   

But no , I don't do Halloween . 

I walk past the aisles of all that plastic tat in the supermarket . Money would be better given to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal .🌹

I don't do Guy Fawkes Night either  .... 😜...... 🤣....... 🎉

                                  

I need to get the winter insulation up in the greenhouse , but the pain relief meds are making me feel a bit woozy still ..... 

     ......... I am getting there slowly and I need a clear head to look after my also poorly husband .

                       Weather update - Yesterday " blinking cold !"

                                                   Today  " cold "    

          .....and the occasional icy cold squall with a bit of hail thrown in for good measure .

Another cold morning !

                                Got my Poppy !

               They were selling them at the Duchy Hospital yesterday .

I do like the simple paper Poppies and pin .

This morning it is blinking cold ! 

The clouds look like they are coming from the West , but are originating from the North ..brrrr !

We are not used to this here on the Lizard !

Hanging basket is now safely in the shed . 

...and that will just sit there through the Winter . Won't need watering . Bring it out again next Spring .

Pulled down the survival blanket to give some extra light .

                    I think I'll start wearing my new hat and fingerless gloves !  

Storm Benjamin

 

Told you it was going to rain !  🌧️ So Storm Benjamin wasn't too bad here . It rained hard during the night .....I didn't hear any thunder . Now there are squalls coming in and it is a bit windy now and then . 

It has passed now . We might even see the Sun ! 🌤️

I hobbled up to the shed on my walking frame . Got to make space for the hanging basket .

All my lettuces and kale withered away while I was in hospital . 

I can't bend down to plant them , so ....anyway ....I threw them into the hedgerow . 

I'm still thinking about rescuing them now .  

I  shoved everything along to the end , the Epies , baby Agaves and pathetic pumpkins .

Anyway an hour later , it took me over an hour to do this ten minute job .

So now there is space for the hanging basket .

Normally, if I had been feeling up to it , I might have taken out the succulents in one long block and left it there on the bench and re-planted the basket with Wallflowers and Universal Pansies .

It has been so difficult with both of us poorly and in and out of hospital . I am so , so tired .

Trying to stay positive ...... my son in law dug out a nice big hole and placed a tub into it , to keep it open . The idea being , that  next year I can just easily drop in my Musa ensetii"Maurelii" the red leaved banoonah  .

                             Bobbin the Robin approved !

               Dinner-plate Dahlias that my daughter gave me are enjoying the rain .
