☀️Making Hay While the Sun Shines ☀️

☀️ It is a scorcher ! The hay is looking good .🌿☀️🚜

Meanwhile in the greenhouse.....

I'm hoping my tomatoes will soon be ripening .

Oh ! My Sweet Peppers too !

I have to stay in when the sun is this hot .
I did a little flower arranging earlier this morning while it was cooler .

A little white feather appeared from nowhere .
I think this is supposed to mean that a departed loved one is near by or thinking of me ...not sure ....an angel's feather ? It gave me a warm feeling anyway . . . I could do with a hug ...

This week there are corners of my garden lit up with Crocosmias  . I love these flowers , worthy of looking closer .

I think the buds are particularly beautiful .

I sorted out a pot of succulent cuttings and voodoo lily corms for my brother , but he says he doesn't want them right now. . . so I will pot them up and see if anyone else would like them .

A Sauromatum venosum shoot has popped up in the other pot . I didn't think anything was going to come up in that pot . Gardening teaches me to be patient .

I am thinking of creating a corner of the garden especially for these fascinating Aroids .

But not right now ..it is too hot for any garden operations .

Hope you are all keeping cool in the hot sun . love Debbie x

Meanwhile in the Shed and other things 🌿☀️

I have just sown three varieties of kale .

There is no room to sow direct at the moment , I'll plant these out when there is space , probably after I've harvested the onions .

They should germinate very quickly . I have actually taken off that propagator lid now as it is going to be a very hot weekend . I 'll keep a close eye on them and get them pricked out as soon as they hatch !

I am so glad I picked that little bunch of flowers from the meadow , because our friend came to start the cutting and baling ... I didn't know he'd been ! How did I not hear his tractor ? !

I usually like to take some pictures of all the wild flowers before he cuts it .

Lots of things been going on this week .

I've been doing my family history again and sent off my DNA sample yesterday . Should be interesting . Takes two or three weeks for the results .

Sauromatum venosum - last weeks flower has withered away and it's put up another shoot ! " Curioser and curioser ! " said Alice . 🤔

Which reminds me ....my daughter said I could come and dig out all of her voodoo lilies ....she loves them but unfortunately her dog is obsessed with them and tries to eat them !

I would like to put these into another area of the garden . They are amazing and fascinating plants .

Took them home and planted them up temporarily in pots until I decide where to plant them .

Lots of lovely corms !

I had to do this as quickly as I could because they were fast wilting in the heat .

They really did not like being transplanted and are wilting ...but I will plant out their corms and they will come up and be fantastic again next year .

Yesterday late afternoon and after the trees cast some shade , I did a bit more weeding .

I planted some of the Aloe striatula cuttings that had come from the very straggly plant in the main ornamental garden .
This is actually to one side of my vegetable garden .
There are a couple of my old faithful friends buried here  . Those are my old doggy walking boots. Walked miles in them .....

It's o.k...... I'm o.k. ....  happy memories .....

Looks nice again now , happy me  .

It's going to be hot this weekend . Take care and keep in the shade . ..but make it a great weekend !

                                                    ⛅🌤️☀️

p.s.
This is how the weather is looking here on the Lizard this morning .....mizzle !

Typical Cornish weather , hot , misty , mizzle !

🌿New Shoot update - Voodoo Lily ! 🌿

THIS WEEK - In just a matter of a few days ......not one but two Voodoo Lilies !

I am pretty sure that these are yet another variety to the ones I've been showing you recently . Very exciting !

I think that someone planted something into the middle of this pot last year and smashed up the then dormant very large corm .

I can assure you they were severely reprimanded  🙄

Anyway....

As these two are towards the edge of the pot , I think these will probably be a couple of little off-shoots .

So they may not flower this year .

(Note to self _

I need to clearly label pots with precious plants that go dormant  over the winter months . )

I'm surprised though at just how late this one is waking up .

           It's had quite a long enough "lie-in " !!

                                                  ⛅🌤️☀️

New Shoot - 🌿 ?

LAST WEEK - I noticed a teeny weeny new shoot coming up in this pot .🌿

I didn't want anyone disturbing it by digging or planting anything into it 🌿 ( like has happened before ...grrr ! )

So I placed this awesome fish vertebra (that I found on the beach 🤩 Isn't it awesome ? !! 🦈 ) sort of pointing towards it , as a gentle reminder .

                                                    🌿🤔.... hmmmm ...🌿

Dahlias planted !

Weeding 🌿

How on earth did we not notice these weeds creeping in ? !!!

They don't ever show you this on Gardener's World !  So I'm showing it for you !

Brambles . Stinging Nettles . Ivy .

Yes I know Ivy has some medicinal properties .

Yes I know one can eat Nettle leaves  ( and we have ) And yes , I know they are habitat for butterflies . Peacock , Red Admiral , Comma and the Small Tortoiseshell .

And yes , I know blackberries make nice jam and crumbles .

So there are plenty in the surrounding hedgerows . I don't want them here !

Here , they are just a nuisance  . This is my one good South facing bed .

I love architectural type plants I find them exciting . Husband loves flowers and wants a real splash of colour . I have lots of cheerful and colourful Dahlias specially for him !

So the Dahlias ready to plant out now . I've been bringing them on , up in the woodshed .

I would like to plant them and leave them in and mulched over Winter months , but the Ivy is so bad that although I have really worked hard to clear them , I know that there could still be the odd small bits of roots that could easily get going again .

I think I will plant out the Dahlias but dig them up again in the Autumn for one more year .

I'll give it another good weeding frenzy and maybe cover it over through the winter .

                   🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿

So....this is where I've been and what I've been doing for the last two days .

Weeding .
