Waiting , waiting , waiting ! 🌵

 Every morning I am dashing up to the greenhouse to see if those buds have opened up yet !

Sorry to say , not yet ! They really are keeping us waiting !

                           There are five buds on this one ! Five !

             They are getting bigger and more yellow everyday .

      Just a little hint of pink on this Echinocereous viereckii ssp.morricalii .

 Hidden in amongst the shade of the Sweet Peppers  ........

.............. is the one known only as " the yellow one "  ... and it is an absolute stunner !

               The wait to see these buds open is almost unbearable !  

This morning the buds have really coloured up , a beautiful gold  💛🌿

                   I will let you know as soon as they bloom .

🌶️Growing in amongst the shade of the Sweet Peppers 🌶️ This is an Epiphyllum that was sent to me from a very kind person in Kent.....they called it simply "Yellow "and said it never fails to bloom every year .💛

This sweet little one - Rhipsalidopsis rosea is one of my absolute favourites  🤍🌿

New Epie buds opening faster than expected !

 I couldn't resist popping into the greenhouse to check on those two Epiphyllum buds .

Epie var Marilyn Monroe on the left is now fading away .

Epiphyllum var Marilyn Monroe fading away , but keeping my fingers crossed for more buds .

I am now watching these two buds that I showed you in this morning's post . These seem to be opening up much faster than Marilyn . 

What do you think ? Later today , midnight or tomorrow morning ?  Watch this space !

Epiphyllum var Marilyn Monroe - flowering update 6.30am

 

                                       6.30am on my way up to the greenhouse .

 And there she is !  Almost fully open . Outer petals... nude....inner petals baby pink  ...green centre .

Just one teeny tiny snail nibble hole to that top petal ...grrr ...but that's o.k........

Epiphyllum var Marilyn Monroe -flowering update 9.50pm

 O.k this will be the last update of the day at 9.50pm . Looks like she'll be fully open during the night . It's not a full moon , but quite bright in it's third quarter . 

    I'm off to bed now . I hope she'll still be there in the morning . If I wake up in the middle of the night , and if I can pluck up courage  , then I might creep up to the greenhouse and have a little peek .....but probably not .....if so I will give the next update early morning .

Up early and dash up to the greenhouse to see if she has opened yet . Worried she might be a midnight bloomer .

But nope ... she is just pretty much just as she was last evening . Maybe swollen out just a tiny bit .

Well at least we haven't missed it .

We'll check up on her again after brekkers  !

Epie Buds - the waiting

 

I waited up until about 11.30pm for these buds to open and then just couldn't stay awake any longer .

                                So I will have to wait until the morning .

More Epiphyllum Happiness !

 Flowering right at the back of my greenhouse . I couldn't get in to see what variety of Epiphyllum it is ! 

                               Please can anyone tell me what this one is ?

                                                    She's a beauty !

Early Flowering Epie update - It's opening !

               It's opening and I think this is Epiphyllum " King Midas " .
                            This is a lovely orange /peach coloured one .

                             My first Epiphyllum bloom of the year 2020 .
                                                  15th January .
                       It is still not fully open ..... but I am delighted with it !

      The early flowering Epiphyllum however , is really taking it's time !

                        It is very slowly beginning to lift that top right petal .
            The sun is shining again today , I,ll take another look a bit later on .
                Will it be red , pink or white ? Hard to tell at this stage .

 I will be dashing up to the greenhouse again in the morning early ....I,m afraid I,m just too tired to do the midnight shift !

Wolf Moon Mullion 2020

 And so the lovely sunny day continued and I took many photos of the lovely flowers on my Marlothistella up in the greenhouse .

 We took a walk along the field towards the Marconi  Monument  , blue sky and sun shining , but a chilly breeze . I wrapped up warm with gloves and my scarf around my ears . So it didn't bother me .

 He however , didn't bring his gloves or scarf ....the wind played a tune as it blew over those little holes on his crutches !  It was so funny ! lol !
  He was glad we had come out for some fresh air , but I could see his ears turning blue , so we turned round and walked back to the car .

                              From the car we sat and watched the waves .

                              Lovely just to sit and watch them rolling in .

                                     Time for home and a nice cuppa tea !

As we came into our lane we were thrilled to see the first full moon of the year rising up over our little cottage and the vegetable garden . My photo just doesn't do it justice I,m afraid . I really hope you had a good view of her rising .
 

 Meanwhile up in my greenhouse the Epiphyllum ( which is meant to flower in May ) bud is swelling and I noticed that it's sepals are beginning to open backwards .
 I wonder if it will open during the night as many Epies do ?  To be pollinated by moths I suppose  .  Maybe it is responding to the Moon .
  I am going up there in a minute with my camera and torch , to light a couple of long burning night lights , to take the chill off the air ....and take a look .
 I'll let you know if she blooms !
