Butternuts and Pumpkins 🐜

 

So while I've been busy observing my Voodoo Lilies , the weeds have been romping away !

This is the African Key Hole Bed in which this year I am growing Butternut squash and a couple of Pumpkins .

                               Is that a little Pumpkin I spy in there ? 

There are clumps of grass , thousands of that little Milkweed Euphorbia Spurge thing. .....yards and yards of Bindweed , stinging nettles also with their long stringy roots  and one very annoying large clump of Brambles .

                

                                                      Yes ! It is ! 

So I got together my garden gloves , big fork , kneeling mat and the Hori-Hori ....yep , I thought I might give the Japanese Hori-Hori another go .

I stepped in and .......

                                           ...... that had me dancing ! 

 I very quickly moved to another spot . 🐜

The Bindweed is the most annoying thing, winding itself around the stems of the Butternuts and Pumpkins . I carefully unwind it , then go for the roots . 🐜

 🐜 Then I just pulled and pulled and pulled . 

The Hori Hori was great for cutting through the bindweed which was determined to hang on .

The ground is very dry . 🐜I will try and give all the vegetable beds a good watering tomorrow morning, before the guys come to repair a part of a tumbling downy Cornish Hedge ...also re-do the crushed rock on the drive . I will be wanting to keep right out of the way  .

 I might do some needlework tomorrow  .

So I did about an hour of pulling weeds and I will gather them all up early tomorrow and give everything a good drink .  Yep I already said that didn't I ?

Enjoyed my home grown lettuce , tomatoes and cucumbers , which we had with a recipe from Grace Mortimer's lovely new book " My First Meals  Fast, fun and easy recipes for children with just five ingredients " 

A really easy and yummy bake of gnocchi  courgette , passata, chorizo and grated cheddar cheese very quick to throw together and bake in the oven and served up with some tasty buttered wholemeal bread .

 I needed something quick to put together and this was perfect . 

 I was going to take a photo of it , but was so hungry I forgot !  I didn't even take a picture of my lovely cucumbers .  🥒🥒🥒

 Gardening makes me hungry !   

          Tired and aching now , early night for me .  Sweet dreams all  🌿🤍💐
